How is a new Elo rating calculated?
Subtract the expected score from the actual score, multiply that difference by the K-factor, and add the result to the old rating.
What K-factor should I use?
Use the K-factor set by your league or federation. Common values are 16 for established players, 20 for many rated events, and 32 or 40 for newer players whose ratings should change faster.
How many Elo points does a win give?
The gain depends on the rating difference and K-factor. Beating a stronger opponent gains more points than beating a weaker opponent.
Does a draw change an Elo rating?
Yes. A draw usually gives points to the lower-rated player and removes the same number from the higher-rated player. Equal ratings do not change after a draw.
Is this an official FIDE rating calculator?
No. It uses the standard Elo formula, while FIDE and other organizations may apply rounding, provisional-rating, inactivity, or event-specific rules.
